3. Dallas Goedert will continue to be an afterthought in this offense

Speaking of surprising usage, tight end Dallas Goedert hasn’t gotten much love in this offense to begin the year. It’s so bad that Goedert’s role and targets are already a major talking point.

However, this and Hurts’ struggles go hand-in-hand. The passing game is having troubles across the board right now, which has led to just one notable performance from a pass-catcher in each game so far instead of Godert, Brown and DeVonta Smith all thriving at the same time.

It’s not like Goedert’s importance has declined in any way since last season. He’s one of the game’s premier TE receiving threats and is coming off of a 2022 campaign that saw him post his second-best yards total (702) since entering the league.

Six receptions for 22 yards over the first two games, including a goose egg in Week 1, is sure to prompt some speculation. But it’s part of the overall struggles that are going on, rather than anything to do with the tight end himself.

I’m bullish on the Eagles’ offense figuring some stuff out right after the long week. This team is much better when the passing attack is clicking, so I bet Sirianni and Johnson have had plenty of discussions since Thursday night about how to learn from the first two games.

Johnson has already talked about increasing Goedert’s involvement, and the TE’s team-high 7 targets against Minnesota show he’s proving true to his word. Once Philadelphia figures out how to recharge its passing game, Goedert’s numbers should spike.
