You’re never going to be able to add MVP-level talent in free agency in the middle of the season, so how about tapping into an MVP bloodline to bring some depth?

The Philadelphia Eagles did just that when they signed Tiawan Mullen on Tuesday.

Eagles News: Tiawan Mullen Signed to Practice Squad

The Eagles made a practice squad addition by signing cornerback Tiawan Mullen, the cousin of Baltimore Ravens QB and former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

If Mullen’s name sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because he was already an Eagle for four days in the offseason.

The undrafted rookie was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers, but ended up being waived on Aug. 29. He signed with the Eagles’ practice squad two days later, but was released again on Sep. 3.

Hopefully he didn’t give up his apartment in Philly in the couple weeks that passed since then.

Mullen probably won’t make a push to see the field this year, but with Avonte Maddox hurt and our secondary full of young, unproven talent you simply can’t have too much depth.

Mullen was undersized on the perimeter at 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, but he played much bigger than that at Indiana, racking up 58 tackles in his senior season. The four-year starter also racked up 5 interceptions, 28 pass defenses, 3.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles in his collegiate career.

He projects as a slot corner, which makes sense given the need with Maddox gone, though the knocks on his game are around poor discipline and a tendency to end up out of position from biting on fakes.

Those issues are things that can be coached out too, while his smooth hips and great acceleration are harder to teach. That makes Mullen a very intriguing prospect.

Losing Maddox out can make it more worrying to back the Eagles, but you don’t need to worry about that getting in the way of your $350 from DraftKings.
