The Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary is reeling after a string of terrible early-season injury luck. These losses have made the Budda Baker buzz even stronger, especially as the disgruntled star safety plots a potential exit from the Arizona Cardinals.

Unfortunately, the latest on Baker as a possible trade candidate is not what Eagles fans wanted to hear.

Eagles Trade Rumors: Budda Baker

Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports and 97.3 ESPN reports he’s talked to people in Arizona “for months” about a possible Eagles-Baker deal. Kerr notes Philly has interest in the ballhawk, but the Cardinals seem to feel Baker is “off the table” regarding trade negotiations.

An optimistic look at his is maybe Arizona’s just playing hardball and wants a bigger return. However, that information is often made public on a much larger scale if the organization wanted to send a message to the rest of the league.

It’s very possible the Cards are trying to mend the fences with Baker, who nearly left this offseason before receiving a pay bump for the final two years of his current contract. After all, head coach and Philly defector Jonathan Gannon has risen up the ranks due to his defensive background, so it’d be no surprise if he wants Baker to be the lynchpin of his new unit.

All doesn’t appear to be going well in Arizona, though. The Cardinals have started the year 0-2, including a disaster-class of a loss in Week 2 after blowing a 21-point lead. Most notably, Baker wasn’t even active this past Sunday, sitting out due to a hamstring injury that popped up on Friday.

Baker’s unexpected absence has already prompted speculation that he’s still not happy, and who could blame him as the Cards do everything possible to tank for a top draft pick.

If Arizona’s woes continue, Baker could try to force his way out, and Philadelphia would be the ideal landing spot. He’d instantly step into a leading role on a Super Bowl contender, giving the two-time First Team All-Pro a real taste of the postseason after making just one playoff appearance over his first six seasons with the Cardinals.
