3 Studs and 2 Duds from the Eagles’ Week 2 Win Over Vikings
2. STUD: DeVonta Smith
DeVonta Smith did his best DeSean Jackson impression in this game, and if he keeps it up we’re going to have to stop making those D-Jax comparisons. Smith is going to be the measuring stick for an explosive speedy wideout in Philly before long.
Smith’s massive game was especially notable because Jalen Hurts frankly didn’t look very good throwing the ball. Whether you want to blame Hurts or the scheme, it wasn’t a good day through the air.
The only saving grace was what Smith did, completely burning the Vikings secondary and making things very, very easy for Hurts. I’m not saying you or I could’ve hit him for that touchdown, but there aren’t many NFL quarterbacks who couldn’t have.
Smith had an absurd 67.8% of the Eagles’ total receiving yards (131 of 193) despite having just 22.2% of the receptions (4 of 18).
The final stat-line was 4 receptions, 131 yards and 1 touchdown on just 5 targets.
He’s off to an outstanding start to the year, already up to 178 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he’s almost been doing it singlehandedly.
AJ Brown wasn’t happy with Hurts today, but rather than complaining Smith just went out there and made his own opportunity.
