2. Malik Davis

We hate to admit it, but the Dallas Cowboys’ Malik Davis might be the best practice squad running back in the league. But Eagles fans could get over the Dallas connection pretty quickly if we claimed Davis.

Davis looked really good in limited action as a rookie in 2022, and he was much better than his 38-carry, 161-yard stat line will tell you. His 10 yards per reception (63 yards on 6 catches) hints at that a bit.

The other thing that highlights how much better he was than those rushing stats is his Pro Football Focus grade. PFF gave him a really strong overall grade of 80.6 as a rookie, ranking 22nd among the 144 backs that they graded.

The ability to contribute as both a rusher and receiver is something that’s hard to find from a guy who isn’t currently on a 53-man roster, and that makes Davis very interesting.

The tricky part here is that we’d have to bring Davis right onto the 53-man roster, making things a little messier because we’d have to open up a roster spot while these other options could be signed to the practice squad.

The upside of that, though, is that Davis is only in his second NFL season and seems like he might have the kind of upside to keep on this roster for the long term as well.
