Everyone around the league remembers the Philadelphia Eagles’ beatdown of the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football last year. Though Minnesota went on to enjoy a historic season, that pitiful performance was seared into the minds of fans around the league, which made it no surprise when the Vikings were upset in the playoffs.

These squads are set to rematch Thursday night, and star receiver Justin Jefferson is talking some big game before the primetime clash.

Jefferson said there’s “definitely some tension” ahead of kickoff. He admitted “not having those plays we wanted last year” has Minnesota determined to change things this time.

However, the stud wideout also offered somewhat of a threat to the Eagles’ defense, claiming “We definitely have some things we’ve got to get back at them on.”

Jefferson saying there’s tension, then adding the Vikings want to “get back” at Philadelphia, sets the stage for potential fireworks on TNF. No one would be shocked if Minnesota comes out extra chippy and emotions run high at Lincoln Financial Field.

Maybe Jefferson’s just mad we held him to only 48 yards despite his being targeted 12 times when we met in 2022. The guy’s used to picking apart weaker defenses, so you can understand why he’d be so frustrated against an elite unit that only lets him average 4.0 yards per target.

However, the Vikings’ interest in this “rivalry” is purely one-sided. You don’t hear Eagles players totally invested in any kind of revenge narrative; this is just another week for them.

These opposite approaches just show the different states each team is in. Minnesota, eager to prove it actually is a contender after flaming out in the postseason, wants to send a message. Meanwhile, Philly just wants to take care of business and continue on toward a return trip to the Super Bowl.

Obviously the handling of the Vikings in primetime last season will gives the Eagles some extra confidence heading into this rematch, but it’s not anything they’re making a big deal out of. Hopefully Philadelphia fans are treated to a similar result Thursday at the Linc.
