Ranking the 15 Best Eagles Players Heading into the 2023 Season
3. Lane Johnson
Tackles don’t always get the respect they deserve, so that’s what we’re going to do for Lane Johnson here.
Although he didn’t accomplish much through his first four seasons in the league, Johnson has been as elite as they come since 2017. In the last six seasons, Philly’s starting right tackle has been named to the Pro Bowl four times, first-team All-Pro twice, and second-team All-Pro once.
The 2020 campaign was the only time during that run where he didn’t earn any individual accolades, but that had more to do with his only playing seven games due to injury.
Speaking of that season, November 2020 was the last time that Johnson allowed a sack. Yes, you read that correctly. Few players in the league’s history have been capable of putting on performances like that one.
After being viewed as the top right tackle in the NFL last season, Johnson appears to be at the top of his game.
2. A.J. Brown
After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans, it didn’t take A.J. Brown long to make a name for himself. After all, he recorded nearly 3,000 yards with 24 TDs during that time.
However, last offseason’s trade to the Eagles helped Brown take his game to another level.
Immediate chemistry with Hurts led to the ex-Mississippi product having a career year with 88 catches, 1,496 receiving yards (nearly half as many as he had in the first three years) and 11 TDs. Not only did he receive All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for his work, but he also finished ninth in the 2022 NFL MVP race.
Just for reference, Justin Jefferson was the only other wideout in the top 10 (No. 5).
With only four seasons under his belt, Brown might still be getting better. The offensive situation is still one of the best in the league and as long as the other Philly pass-catchers garner their fair share of defensive attention, the 26-year-old phenom will continue to produce results.
The fact of the matter is that the Eagles aren’t Super Bowl contenders without Brown.
