4 Key Eagles Who Will Be Free Agents After 2023 Season
The NFL salary cap and roster rules make it hard enough to put together an elite roster, and it’s far more difficult to keep an elite roster together once you have one.
Unless you have star players taking massive discounts, an NFL team needs to get serious contributions out of their unheralded role players who have smaller contracts to reach the pinnacle. But once you get those performances, the role players aren’t going to remain inexpensive.
Thanks to Howie Roseman’s magic, the Eagles have one of the best constructed rosters in the NFL, but that doesn’t leave them immune to the issues that all potential dynasties face.

Upcoming Eagles Free Agents 2024
Fletcher Cox
Fletcher Cox is a lifetime Eagle so far. At 32 years old and heading into his 12th NFL season, it’s looking like he may continue to be a lifetime Eagle for the rest of his career. But that’s still not guaranteed.
Cox tested free agency for the first time in his career this spring, and while he did end up re-signing in Philly, he did it on just a one-year contract.
That means Cox is set to hit free agency again next spring.
Is this just a negotiation tactic? Signing a short-term deal and hitting the market to get a better contract out of the Eagles?
It might be, but that’s a dangerous game to play. The Eagles among the more loyal NFL organizations, but this is a cutthroat business.
Cox’ play has fallen off some in recent years, and the Eagles have spent top-13 draft picks on interior defensive linemen in back-to-back drafts.
It’s great to have Cox’ veteran leadership up front, and he’s still a valuable rotational player as a pass rusher. But he’s not the irreplaceable piece of this defense that he once was, and his future with the Eagles has never felt as uncertain as it does right now.
