3. Nicholas Morrow, LB

The Eagles didn’t waste time bolstering their defense when the offseason began, signing former Chicago Bears linebacker Nicholas Morrow to a one-year contract.

It wasn’t hard to love the signing considering that Morrow was coming off his best NFL campaign to date. The former Greenville Panther finished his fifth pro season with 116 tackles (83 solo), 11 tackles for lost yardage, two broken-up passes, and one interception.

After Philadelphia had a top-10 defense last year, adding Morrow had the unit looking even stronger.

That’s why it was shocking when the Eagles waived the 28-year-old on Tuesday.

There’s no question that Morrow is capable of being an everyday player, highlighted by his starting 90.3% of his appearances over the last two seasons. He’s also someone who improves with each passing year, which is a theory many Philly fans wanted to see played out this year.

Unfortunately, that won’t happen now.

What makes his release even more questionable is the state of the Eagles’ LB situation. They already lost Shaun Bradley to a season-ending Achilles tear while rookie Nolan Smith has been dealing with a shoulder injury since mid-August. That’s without mentioning how Haason Reddick’s thumb is banged up at the moment.

Hopefully, the Eagles’ LB injuries don’t continue to pile up. With the new season right around the corner, it isn’t hard to see how keeping Morrow around would’ve made the situation easier to deal with.
