It can be tough to pick a breakout candidate on a team like the Eagles, since the lineup is loaded with so much talent that is already good enough that a big year wouldn’t exactly be a “breakout.”

Haason Reddick gave some breakout picks in an interview with FanSided’s Peter Dewey, though, and if these guys break out then we could be looking at a return trip to the Super Bowl (with a different result this time).

Haason Reddick’s Eagles Breakout Picks

Jalen Carter

The first pick was no surprise, as it’s the same pick most Eagles fans are making. But getting a co-sign from Haason Reddick is a lot more meaningful than knowing that Joe Philly on Twitter like Carter to breakout.

Reddick described Carter as “electric,” say that the rookie has already exceeded the expectations Reddick had for him. That’s gotta be saying something, considering Carter was already viewed as one of the best prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft.

And what really stands out here?

Reddick is already putting Carter in the same breath as Javon Hargrave, highlighting that Carter will help fill that void. Considering the Hargrave-sized void is one comprised of 11.0 sacks in 2022, that’s a serious piece of praise.

Reddick’s praise makes Carter a very interesting bet for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

D’Andre Swift

Here’s the one that would really put this Eagles team over the top.

We know Jalen Hurts is elite. We know the offensive line is elite. We know AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith make for one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL. The only area our offense has any question mark is at running back.

But Reddick doesn’t seem to think this is a question mark, picking Swift as his breakout on that side of the ball.

And while Reddick may not be as familiar with the offense as he is with Carter and the d-line, you better believe he’s tuned into how it feels to play against these guys. Earlier in the interview he credited battling with the Eagles’ starting o-line as a big reason why their defensive front is so good. So Reddick has built up plenty of first-hand experience around what it’s like to defend Swift.

If we have Swift playing like a true RB1 with the explosiveness of Rashaad Penny rotating in and Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott providing depth? Well then nobody has a chance to stop this offense.
