2.  Ty Montgomery, WR/RB

One of the Eagles’ most shocking roster moves was cutting kick/punter returners Devon Allen and Britain Covey. Most fans assumed only one of the duo was getting the axe, which is why it was a surprise to see both men hitting the unemployment line.

Although the Eagles could potentially add either Allen or Covey to the practice, I’d like to see them take a flyer on dual-threat Ty Montgomery, who was released by the New England Patriots.

Montgomery has made a name for himself by being a Swiss Army knife, doing anything asked of him. That includes returning his fair share of kicks throughout his eight-year career.

The 30-year-old veteran has returned 58 kicks since 2015, turning those opportunities into 1,302 yards (22.4-yard average per attempt). He only fielded one kick last season but still managed to return it for 28 yards, proving that he’s still a capable option.

Even if Montgomery hasn’t returned a punt in his NFL career, that’s what players like Olamide Zaccheaus and Justin Evans are for.

Besides, the experienced journeyman doesn’t need to be limited to a special teams role. He’s spent portions of his career in wide receiver and running back roles, tallying 2,297 total yards and 11 TDs on 402 opportunities (260 carries, 142 receptions).

He might not be the flashiest name, but Montgomery’s versatility would help give the Eagles more depth in multiple areas.
