Eagles Make the Roster Move Fans Called for All Preseason
Some training camp cuts are really tough. When you roster is loaded like the Philadelphia Eagles’ is, you’ll have to say goodbye to some really good players. But some cuts are easy.
This one falls into that second category: the Eagles have released punter Arryn Siposs, in a move that fans have been calling for non-stop for the last few weeks.
Siposs had to go, and even though the Eagles didn’t carry a second punter through training camp, it’s been clear for a long time that he wasn’t going to be the starter in Week 1.
Last year Siposs graded out at No. 33 among the 36 punters that Pro Football Focus tracked for the season. Things somehow got even worse in the 2023 preseason, with Siposs ranking 41st among 42 graded punters.
With Tuesday 53-man roster deadline bringing a new wave of punters into free agency, the Eagles are suddenly flush with options to replace Siposs.
Siposs obviously didn’t win himself any fans in Philly with his shanked punt in the Super Bowl, but this move was obvious enough even without that high-profile blunder.
Siposs simply doesn’t look like he has what it takes to punt at the NFL level right now, so I wouldn’t expect anyone to claim him off waivers.
That does mean that, if Philly really does think he has the potential to grow into a solid option, they could sign Siposs back to the practice squad. I don’t think too many fans will be beat up if he doesn’t even get that chance, though.
If you want to celebrate Siposs’ departure, what better way to do it than with a $250 guaranteed bonus?
