The Phillies are rolling, and not surprisingly, their two best players are leading the way.

Philadelphia won again on Monday night, besting the Angels 6-4 at Citizens Bank Park. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper did most of the heavy lifting, plating the Phillies’ first 5 runs on a trio of homers.

When LA took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Turner answered with a solo smash in the bottom of the frame. When the Halos re-took the lead in the fourth with 2 runs, Harper immediately answered with a 2-run blast. Then in the fifth, Turner gave Philly the lead for good with his second jack of the game.

The other seven hitters in the Phillies’ lineup should have just taken the night off, because there’s no stopping Turner and Harper these days.

Back in early August, we identified them as two players who needed to step up down the stretch in order for Philadelphia to secure a playoff spot, and boy, have they ever.

Phillies Home Run Record

Let’s start with the two-time NL MVP. Harper is currently on a seven-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. And after managing just 5 home runs in his first 77 games of the season, his power has finally come around. Over his last 20 games, he has 15 extra-base hits, including 8 home runs.

Turner’s hot streak, on the other hand, is well-documented. It started on Aug. 4 when Phillies fans gave him a standing ovation at home in an attempt to give the struggling star a boost. He responded with a hit and an RBI, kicking off a 22-game stretch where he recorded at least one hit in 20 games, including each of his last nine. He’s clubbed 15 extra-base hits during that span, with seven leaving the yard.

With 15 homers between them this month, Harper and Turner have powered Philadelphia to one of the best months in franchise history. After going deep three times on Monday, the Phillies currently have 52 home runs (and counting) in August — their most in any month during the team’s 141-season history.

Not surprisingly, Philadelphia has scored a whopping 156 runs in August — 30 more than its next-highest month this season. All of those round-trippers have translated into plenty of wins, too, as the Phillies are 16-9 this month and have surged into the NL’s top Wild Card spot.

With two more games left in August, there’s still plenty of time for Philadelphia to keep hitting bombs and cashing bets at DraftKings Sportsbook.
