2. Lou Hedley

The New Orleans Saints signed Lou Hedley as an undrafted free agent, and he’s really shown out in the preseason. The problem is, Blake Gillikin is still in town, and even after a bad preseason he’ll be hard to cut.

And honestly, if Gillikin does get cut then you can just slot him onto this list in Hedley’s place.

As of writing, Hedley is Pro Football Focus’ No. 7 graded punter among the 41 to see preseason action.

Five of his nine punts have gone inside the 20, and only three of his punts have been returned. Even better? Opponents have just 7 return yards on those 3 punts.

He’s getting hangtime when he needs to, getting kicks out of bounds and placing the ball perfectly for the punt coverage team to get in place.

Hedley should be a high-priority signing if he’s cut.

And if it’s Gillikin? Well, he was PFF’s No. 15 punter last season, and having a league-average player at the position would still be a great upgrade from Siposs.
