7. Dan Arnold

Dallas Goedert is obviously a lock as TE1, and there’s no doubt about Jack Stoll’s roster spot.

Then we have a bit of a mess with Grant Calcaterra, Tyree Jackson and Dan Arnold all fighting it out for either one or two roster spots.

It’s a really tough call whether we’ll carry three or four, but my gut is that going with five wideouts allows us to carry four tight ends, especially since it’s going to be four with plenty of receiving upside.

That leaves Dan Arnold as the odd man out in the trio of “maybes.”

Arnold has bounced around, playing games for five teams in five seasons, and I don’t expect the Eagles to make it number 6. Even in a pair of 400-yard receiving seasons in 2020 and 2021, Arnold really never showed any “wow” factor as a receiver, and his blocking ability has never been enough to put him over the top either.

Calcaterra had a quiet preseason statistically, but it’s easy to still be intrigued by the 24-year-old’s potential.

Jackson hasn’t been a tight end for long, having converted from a quarterback, and the Eagles have been willing to show patience with the transition. His speed and athleticism make it well worth giving him another year to prove himself.

That leaves Dan Arnold on the outside looking in.
