6. Josh Andrews

I’m absolutely team “carry as many offensive linemen as possible”, and about as biased as possible, being a former o-lineman myself. But I just can’t find a way to make a roster spot for Andrews make sense.

The best argument for Andrews to make the roster is that he’s better than Cameron Tom and Brett Toth. And I’ll grant him that. But the answer is not “carry Andrews as the No. 2 center so that we have one.” The answer is to only carry one true center.

Obviously, there’s a chance that even an ironman like Jason Kelce gets hurt, and we don’t want to be completely unprepared for that situation. I’m not saying we just pretend like Kelce is a lock to start 17 games every year forever.

But when Andrews is the best option, the answer is to find an outside-the-box solution. And you really don’t have to go too far outside any boxes to identify this one.

Interior linemen aren’t entirely interchangeable, but there’s plenty of precedent for bouncing guards inside to the center spot as needed. If Kelce gets hurt we can bring Tyler Steen into the lineup, either at center or at right guard with Cam Jurgens bumping into the middle.

I’d be happy with the Eagles carrying as many as 10 o-linemen (heck, get crazy and make it 11 if you want), but none of those spots should be wasted on Andrews.
