3. Rashaad Penny

The Eagles’ running back depth chart is incredibly difficult to read ahead of cutdown day. However, local reports all seem to indicate Rashaad Penny is third in the pecking order behind D’Andre Swift and the incumbent Kenneth Gainwell. Roseman isn’t the kind of GM to pass up a deal if it presents itself, and I wonder if Penny could be rerouted somewhere where a bigger role is available.

We all know how diminished the market is for RBs, but that actually helps Penny in this case. If the options are to pay a star rusher a lucrative second contract, or try to get similar results out of a much cheaper option, most franchises are going with the latter — which Penny fits to a T.

Despite averaging a ridiculous 6.2 yards per attempt over the past two seasons and being one of the most electric RBs in the game, Penny was forced to settle for a meager $1.35 million contract this offseason due to his injury struggles.

You’d have to imagine Penny wants an opportunity to be a starter, though, and that doesn’t appear likely on this team. The good news is there’s several franchises around the league in need of a cheap RB depth that’s capable of starting. It’d be a win-win for Philadelphia and Penny if a trade to a team with more available playing time arises.
