The Eagles’ finale preseason game is just days away, and that means roster cutdown day is right around the corner. Going from 90 players to just 53 is an especially tough task for a team like Philadelphia, who’s able to attract veteran talent at discounts in exchange for the chance to compete for a title.

However, one way Philly can be rewarded for its depth is by trading away contributors who could fill roles elsewhere. With that in mind, here’s the three Eagles most likely to be dealt before roster cutdown day.

Eagles Training Camp Trade Candidates

1. Marcus Mariota

Look, it hasn’t been a great preseason for Marcus Mariota. He’s struggled to impress and truly win the backup role despite it being served up to him on a silver platter. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses, but that doesn’t rule out someone taking a chance on the veteran quarterback for a dirt-cheap price.

Mariota’s starting experience (74 games) makes him the ideal backup option to have waiting in the wings in case of emergency. Yes, his Eagles tenure has gotten off to a poor start, and his time in Atlanta last season ended in disaster. However, Howie Roseman could spin that and chalk it up to a lack of stability preventing Mariota from playing up this full capabilities.

Even Mariota himself admitted he’s still in the process of learning Philadelphia’s playbook. It’s hard to blame a player for underwhelming production this early after his arrival.

Mariota’s market will by no means be robust, but there’s always teams looking to improve their QB depth. A deal could involve the Eagles eating most of his $5 million guaranteed, but extracting even a conditional late-round pick is better than nothing.
