Dak Prescott led the NFL in interceptions in 2022 with 15, giving him double-digits picks in three of the last four seasons (and he was on pace to do it again when he got hurt the other time).

Dak seemed to think it was a brag when he boasted that he wouldn’t throw 10 interceptions this season, and it seems like it should be his number one concern heading into 2023. But the Cowboys’ social media team must have missed the memo, and they shared an absolutely horrible “highlight” of an embarrassing throw Dak made at practice.

In classic Prescott fashion, he bounces around frantically and heaves the ball off his back foot into double coverage.

I mean, I guess it was technically complete, but that’s only because it’s practice and not a game.

They’re practicing without full gear here, so naturally the corner covering CeeDee Lamb doesn’t risk anyone getting injured by going after the ball too aggressively. And the safety completely lets up on the play, since he’s not going to get in there and lay the wood on a teammate.

In a real game though? Lamb’s getting absolutely flattened and that ball’s probably being picked off.

Was it a free play from the offsides? Sure, but this is practice — you’re trying to work on the consistently building good habits and making plays the right way. You’re not focusing on results.

So when Dak wants a big play and his default answer is to go right back to the same habits that have made him so interception-prone over the years? That’s a huge red flag.

It’s not Dak’s fault that the Cowboys decided to embarrass themselves by trying to brag about this play, but it is his fault that he’s still making throws like this in the first place.

The first Eagles-Cowboys meeting in Week 9 can’t come soon enough.
