Eagles GM Howie Roseman continues to make moves in the preseason. One of his latest was signing veteran linebacker Myles Jack to bolster the team’s depth following offseason departures.

Less than a week after joining the team, though, Jack is already looking like a fan favorite in the making.

On Wednesday, the LB spoke with the Philly media about his deal with the Eagles came to be. He explained he was in the middle of a workout when Roseman called offering a tryout. Jack brought only “two pairs of drawers, two pairs of sweats, two pairs of socks” and his Bible with him, opting to pack light considering how often team visits go without a deal. He admitted he booked a return flight as well, showing how uncertain he was about nabbing a contract.

After his workout, Jack even thought he would use that return ticket. However, he got word he was receiving a deal shortly after.

The vet reflected on the craziness of being a free agent, saying, “One week you’re playing ‘Call of Duty’, the next week you’re playing with the Super Bowl champions.”

Funny quote aside, Jack calling the Eagles champs just added to his opening press conference charm. He was completely open about the chaos of being a free agent, and gave unique insight into the tryout process.

Making Jack even more likable, he revealed he contemplated going to trade school. Not for the money, but because he wanted to make himself useful — and feel better prepared for a potential zombie apocalypse.

Not only does Jack seem like a character, but he also has all the values a championship contender values. I mean, how many millionaires consider going through trade school? This guy obviously wants to be helpful no matter where he’s at in life. It’s no wonder the Eagles didn’t let him walk away without a deal considering his obvious work ethic and drive.

There’s plenty to like about Jack, just as a person. But it also sounds as though he’s already making an impression as a player. The vet played with the starters on his very first day of practice, which shows strong belief from the coaching staff in his abilities.

So we’ve got a seemingly great personality, combined with the talent to fill one of Philadelphia’s biggest positions of need? Yeah, I think fans are going to love this guy.
