2. Phillies vs. Giants — Aug. 21-23

The Phillies might not have a bigger series this month than their three-game meeting with the San Francisco Giants.

After all, the Giants are one of their most significant competitors. San Francisco currently occupies the NL’s top Wild Card spot, sitting 1.5 games ahead of Philadelphia. This series could decide which side finishes ahead of the other once the season wraps up.

The series is also an opportunity for the Phillies to prove themselves. They’ve lost nine of their last 10 meetings with the Giants, including the last six in a row. The two clubs already met at Oracle Park back in May, resulting in a three-game sweep for San Francisco.

A lot has changed since that unfortunate result and Philadelphia must prove that it’s a better team now by sending a message.

The Giants only have a 52.8% success rate on the road this season, whereas the Phillies boast a 57.1% winning percentage at home. In other words, winning anything fewer than two of the upcoming clashes is inexcusable.
