Phillies target #3: Kenley Jansen (Atlanta Braves)

The last spot on our list goes to another arm who spent the 2022 season in the NL East, and he is a future Hall of Famer. Kenley Jansen would be a significant addition to any bullpen that adds him and would instantly challenge for the closer role on most teams in Major League Baseball.

Fresh off their 2022 National League Pennant, you better believe the Philadelphia Phillies will be dying to get back to the grandest stage of them all, and why not add a guy who has pitched in some of the biggest moments in the sport over the last decade?

With a career ERA of 2.46 and 391 saves under his belt, Jansen would be a huge addition in talent alone. You match that along with the experience this veteran arm has and what it could do for the young arms in the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen, and you have a potential match made in heaven.

The Phillies heavily leaned on Dominguez and Alvarado throughout the stretch run and postseason of 2022, and you could argue that they really needed another arm to add to the equation. Losing Corey Knebel mid-season hurt, and it really put tons of pressure on the unproven arms that littered the bullpen. They did perform admirably, but having a guy such as Kenley Jansen could take this bullpen to the next level in 2023.

With the Braves in 2022, Jansen appeared in 65 games, posted an ERA of 3.38, and finished second in baseball with 41 saves. Opposing hitters slashed .192/.265/.346 in 2022 off the veteran, which is pretty much in line with the .179/.247/.296 he has held hitters to in his career.

In the postseason, Jansen has a career ERA of 2.20 in 59 appearances, the bulk of which were spent with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also helped the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series.

Spotrac has the market value for Kenley Jansen set at $13.8 million for the 2023 season, which would be a slight discount from the one-year $16 million dollar contract he had signed with the Braves last offseason.

While the price would be a bit steep, I believe something in the neighborhood of $15 million for one season for Jansen could be a bargain when you consider all of the experience that comes along with the ability he has shown to still have. This is a guy that could really help the Philadelphia Phillies reach the mountain-top in 2023.
