For the first time in franchise history, the Philadelphia Eagles are 8-0. Despite being the last undefeated team in the NFL, the Eagles could have an opportunity to add to their roster, even though the trade deadline has passed.

The Las Vegas Raiders have released 2019 1st-round pick Johnathan Abram in a somewhat surprising move Tuesday afternoon. The safety has been mostly disappointing for the Raiders as he only managed 255 tackles, 3 interceptions, a career 74.5% completion percentage, and has yet to record a sack over his 3-and-a-half-year career.

This season, Abram has started 6 games and has 48 tackles, 0 interceptions, and 0 sacks while having a 73% completion rate. Despite his rough go in Vegas, the Eagles should not be afraid to target Abram on the open market.

The Philadelphia Eagles would be wise to target former Raider Johnathan Abram.

Philadelphia is in desperate need of depth at the safety position as they have just K’von Wallace, rookie Reed Blankenship, and the recently resigned Andre Chachere in the role. Wallace, arguably the top option of the three, has played in all eight games for the Eagles this year — more often on special teams than defense — and has only accumulated eight tackles, 0 sacks, and 0 interceptions. He has also allowed three receptions on only three targets.

The final piece to the Eagles’ puzzle is locking down their secondary could now be available. With Slay, Bradberry, Epps, and CJ Gardner-Johnson all playing great football, the last piece for most fans was to acquire one more safety to cement the Eagles’ secondary.

Johnathan Abram might not be a long-term option for the Eagles, but right now, he’s better than what they’ve been rolling out. He’s only 26, so there is a chance that his best football is still ahead of him. Signing Abram is a low-risk, high-reward option for the Eagles to not only lock down their safety position in the short term and potentially longer if all goes well.
