Ahead of Game 3 of the World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies and catcher J.T. Realmuto received some much-deserved news.

The nine-year veteran, proclaimed by Phillies fans as the “BCIB” — Best Catcher In Baseball — has added another piece of hardware to his collection after being named a Gold Glove Award winner for the 2022 season.

Realmuto joins Christian Walkers (1B), Brendan Rodgers (2B), Dansby Swanson (SS), Nolan Arenado (3B), Ian Happ (LF), Trent Grisham (CF), Mookie Betts (RF), Max Fried (SP), and Brendan Donovan (UTL) as the National League winners. This marks the second time Realmuto has received this award.

Philadelphia Phillies’ catcher J.T. Realmuto adds to his case as the BCIB after winning the 2022 Gold Glove award.

While he may not be destined for the Hall of Fame, J.T. Realmuto has asserted and continued to assert himself as the top catcher of his generation. Offensively, it’s not even a question.

Since his debut on June 5th, 2014, Realmuto ranks fifth among catchers in home runs (126), second in RBIs (482), first in runs (494) — by 120 runs, and first in stolen bases (76) — more than twice as many as the second place catcher.

Realmuto also ranks third in average, fourth in slugging, fourth in on-base plus slugging percentage, and first in extra-base hits. Absolutely remarkable.

Now, as a defender, Realmuto has earned his second Gold Glove in a year that saw him throw out 44% of runners who foolishly tried to steal a base against him. This marks the second time he’s finished with caught stealing percentage north of 40% — 47% in 2019 when he won his first Gold Glove.

There are few players who can compete with Realmuto on either side of the field. He has already proven just how important he is to this Philadelphia Phillies team with his three RBI performance against the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the world series — including the winning home run to complete the comeback bid.

J.T. Realmuto is undoubtedly deserving of this award. Hopefully, he’ll soon have some more hardware to add to the collection.
