Philadelphia Phillies: Once again, Philly is proven to be the city of underdogs
Philadelphia, home of the underdogs
The Phillies were 21-29 and fired their manager on June 1st. At that point in time, it seemed like the season was over, yet they kept fighting.
Bryce Harper was hit by a pitch and broke his wrist in June and missed three months of the season; at that point, it felt like the season was over, yet they kept fighting.
The Phillies went 11-14 in September, and after being swept by the Cubs in late September, it seemed like all momentum was gone and they would fall victim to yet another September collapse, yet they kept fighting.
Philadelphia would enter the Postseason being written off by almost everyone, yet they beat the Cardinals in 3 games. They were thought to be no match to the division rival Braves, who had handled them pretty easily in the regular season, yet they beat them in 4 games. They didn’t have the firepower to beat a team with a lineup as loaded as the San Diego Padres, yet the Phillies beat them in 5 games.
This Phillies team have been underdogs all year long, and they have fought their way through multiple adversities throughout the season, but they stuck together, believed in themselves, embraced their role as a castoff, and shocked the world to win the NL pennant.
Only one goal remains: Bringing home a World Series title back to Philly, the city of underdogs.
