Since coming into the league in 2020, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has made impressive strides at his position. Last season, many questioned if Hurts could be more than a staring caliber signal caller. Flash forward to today; he has the third-best odds to win the NFL’s MVP award.

Many of Hurts’ detractors have changed their tune and begun signing his praises instead. From fans to media members, a plethora of people have been served a nice helping of crow as Hurts continues to prove his doubters wrong (I should know, at times, I was among them).

There remain, however, detractors who have yet to acknowledge Hurts’ leap, or at the least, just how far he’s come. One such detractor is the collective mind behind EA’s Madden Franchise — or at least their own version of Ronnie 2k (Johnny EA?).

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts still can’t get due respect from EA’s Madden.

Jalen Hurts has long been underrated by the minds behind Madden. Though he was far from the perfect quarterback last season, he was presented with an initial rating of 74 for Madden 23, the same as Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

To the credit of the video game franchise, they have increased Hurts’ rating since the start of the season. Not enough, but some.

It’s ironic, though, calling Hurts the NFL MVP front runner and yet raising his rating by a single point, and to just 77 overall to boot.

Jalen Hurts currently boasts the third-best odds to win the NFL’s MVP award. For the third-ranking MVP candidate to have a lower rating than the likes of Matt Ryan (79), Kirk Cousins (80), and Ryan Tannehill (81) is something truly shameful.

Does any of this matter for the Philadelphia Eagles season? Absolutely not; however, any unwarranted slight or slander against the Birds’ quarterback should not stand unquestioned.

Jalen Hurts has proven himself at every turn this season. At some point, he must be shown the proper respect by fans, media members, and, yes, even Madden.
