The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of an impressive Monday night victory against the Minnesota Vikings, one that saw no shortage of impressive performances. Among those was the magnificent work performed by Eagles’ star corner Darius Slay.

Slay held superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson to just one catch on six targets as the latter’s primary defender. Along with this, the Eagles’ corner also picked off quarterback Kirk Cousins twice — also while defending Jefferson. Big Play Slay indeed showed up on Monday Night Football.

After such a spectacular showing, Slay has received recognition from the league in the form of the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award. This is the fifth time in his career that he has received this award, his second with the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles’ corner Darius Slay is the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Since he was acquired in March of 2020, Darius Slay has proved on many an occasion that he is a top-flight corner. Monday’s dominant effort against Justin Jefferson is just one more feather in his already-decorated cap.

Perhaps as impressive as Slay’s actual defense against Justin Jefferson is that he effectively called his shot back in August on the NFL’s Top 100.

To be a successful corner — or wide receiver for that matter — in the NFL, there is an extremely high level of confidence that is needed. However, that confidence means nothing unless you can back it up.

Slay has become the leader of this Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary taking players such as second-year corner Zech McPhearson under his wing and, in turn, becoming an idol of sorts for the players — McPhearson in particular.

Darius Slay has been a key cog and a leader for this Eagles’ defense, especially this season. Not only that, but he — and his wife Jennifer — have been consistent contributors to the community since coming to Philly. Truly a complete package of a player and a person.

All that for just a third and a fifth-round pick? Not a bad deal for Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman.
