3. The Philadelphia Eagles still operate best as a running team

Jalen Hurts certainly had his ups and downs while throwing the football in Detroit. Yet, the Eagles’ quarterback made some throws that should build confidence in his progression as a passer but also started the game 0/5, completed 56% of his attempts, and finished the day without a touchdown through the air.

What can’t be denied is his impact when running the ball; he racked up 90 yards on 17 attempts and scored a touchdown on designed runs and scrambles. Add that to the three-headed attack in the backfield, led by Miles Sanders with 96 rushing yards, and you have an offense that ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns.

The Eagles are at their best when they pound the rock and control the clock. During the 2021 season, Philadelphia was 6-3 in games they ran the ball for 150 yards or more and 3-5 in games where they failed to reach that mark last season.

Next. The season rides on Jalen Hurts. dark

Despite the addition of A.J Brown, the Eagles should still lean on the run game whenever possible, especially since they have an elite offensive line and a dangerous foursome of runners at their disposal.
