1) The Philadelphia Phillies will not go very far if they can’t even beat the Giants

The Giants were a good team early on this season, but that was back when the Phillies weren’t so good. They helped get Joe Girardi fired. Since then, the Giants have slowly crept down the standings while the Phillies have gotten better.

Not being able to rebound from their series in Arizona to get swept by a bad Giants team is horrendous. It feels ickier knowing Kapler was the one who added three wins to his resume.

A better team would have woken up from the slumber they seem to have fallen into. Were we wrong to believe the Phillies are as good as their record says? It seems so.

It’s easy to think the Phillies are nothing more than a benefactor of the extended playoffs. If there was only one wild card club, they would be out of the chase already. Even with two available spots, it would seem like a nearly impossible task to catch the Padres.

Confidence in this bunch just isn’t there right now. A grueling West Coast road trip eases up with some weaker opponents at home. The Phillies have a lot they need to prove. From the top on down, it feels like it won’t matter who they draw in the postseason—if they even get there. The playoff drought will only end with a light mist, not a hard rain.
