The cutdown deadline is fast approaching, and the Philadelphia Eagles are as busy as any team in the NFL. While the addition of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson has taken centerstage, rumors continue to swirl surrounding the Eagles former first-round pick, Jalen Reagor.

It all began this morning as Geoff Mosher of Inside the Birds expressed that there was a building trade market for the 23-year-old.

Within three hours, a potential landing spot for Jalen Reagor was revealed. According to the Let’s Go to the Phones podcast crew per their Eagles source, the Minnesota Vikings have been in contact regarding a trade for Reagor based around draft capital.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles trade Jalen Reagor to the Minnesota Vikings?

Before discussing the rumor itself, it’s important, as with any rumor, to consider the source. The fine folks at Let’s Go to the Phones may not have the cachet of an Adam Schefter or an Ian Rapoport; however, on multiple occasions, they have accurately broken news regarding the Philadelphia Eagles.

One example is the release and subsequent re-signing of Fletcher Cox, which came as a surprise to many. Another example of an accurate report on the Eagles’ 2022 schedule hours before any other report. There is clearly some legitimacy to their Eagles source.

With that now out of the way, it’s time to return focus to Jalen Reagor. The Philadelphia Eagles have clearly been considering their options when it comes to the young wideout. If they were to cut Reagor, they would be on the hook for $7,841,763, while they would only incur $3,605,700 over the next two seasons.

A trade is clearly preferred for the Eagles, so trade rumors are not inherently shocking. What is surprising is the connection to the Minnesota Vikings.

Of all the potential teams to pursue Jalen Reagor, the team linked by name is the very same that celebrated when the Eagles drafted him back in 2020.

Objectively their interest is understandable as their receiving core is rather thin once you pass star receiver Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. K.J. Osborn is a fine third option, but adding Jalen Reagor to the mix could certainly round out the group nicely.

According to Let’s Go to the Phones, the rumored return for Reagor is a fifth-round pick which, admittedly, would be a surprisingly pleasant return considering the small role Jalen Reagor is projected to play. Alternatively, the Eagles could also target a player in return if it’s the right fit.

Running back Alexander Mathison is one name to consider outside of draft compensation. However, the Philadelphia Eagles may simply prefer to maximize the draft pick return and opt to sign an available back such as Sony Michel.

As for how the potential move could affect Jalen Reagor, pairing with Kirk Cousins could prove quite beneficial for the young receiver; he could easily have the best regular season of his career playing alongside Cousins.
