3. Jalen Reagor makes the 53…for now

Jalen Reagor has had anything but an ideal career so far with the Eagles. The pick was lauded when he was drafted with the 21st pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Unfortunately, instead of the praise coming from fans or the media, it came from the team with the 22nd pick, who was pleasantly surprised that they were able to select future two-time All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson.

After that, the wide receiver’s tenure with the team on saw harder times, all leading towards this offseason. Many rumors surrounded suggesting the potential of Philadelphia parting ways with the 23-year-old. Despite these rumblings, Jalen Reagor and the Eagles may not be parting ways quite yet.

As upsetting as this would likely be for the majority of Philadelphia Eagles fans unless a legitimate trade offer comes forward, Jalen Reagor will almost certainly remain on the roster.

What little combination of production and potential Reagor possesses in both an offensive and special teams role makes him a logical fit.

He’ll never be confused with Devin Hester as a return specialist, but despite his many foibles, he remains an improvement over Greg Ward and even several candidates expected to make the final roster.

More importantly than his production — well, potential production — are the salary implications of cutting him. If the Eagles were to cut the former first-round pick, they would have to eat a $7.8 million dead cap hit.

It’s unlikely that the Eagles find themselves receiving a high-end offer for Reagor, but they could continue attempting to rehab his value until, at the very least, a suitable player for player swap becomes available.

For all of his mental mistakes, There simply isn’t enough of a reason to suffer the cap hit that comes with cutting him.
