Philadelphia Eagles: Roster cut to 80, Tyree Jackson and Brett Toth to PUP
As the preseason continues, the Philadelphia Eagles passed a notable deadline on Tuesday, having until 4:00 PM ET to trim their roster to 80 players. To do so, they waived three players and placed too more on the Physically Unable to Perform list — otherwise known as PUP.
Among those cut were cornerback Josh Blackwell, running back DeAndre Torrey, and offensive tackle Jarrid Williams. The trio went undrafted in 2022 before joining the Eagles. There’s no real surprise with any of their names appearing on the list of players waived before the deadline.
The Philadelphia Eagles have trimmed their roster down to 80 players.
More notable than the cuts are the two players placed on the PUP list, tight end Tyree Jackson and offensive lineman Brett Toth. Both players will begin the season on the reserved list after they both suffered knee injuries against the Dallas Cowboys in the final game of the regular season.
Both Jackson and Toth are now confirmed to miss the first four weeks of the regular season though neither were expected to play a major role, to begin with.
Tyree Jackson converted to tight end with the Philadelphia Eagles after coming into the league as a quarterback. He spent his entire college career with Buffalo as a QB and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bills. He has had a very successful position transition for the Eagles, but unfortunately, injuries have consistently kept him off the field.
Offensive tackle Brett Toth is also no stranger to the injured list. Originally signing with Philadelphia in 2019, Toth joined the team’s practice squad after going undrafted. The Eagles would waive him as the regular season was set to begin, and he was then claimed by the Arizona Cardinals. After being then waived by the Cardinals just a month later, he would return to Philadelphia after being claimed now by the Eagles.
Since then, Toth has continued to develop, with Philadelphia spending time between their PUP list, practice squad, and even occasionally on the active roster. It’s a pattern that looks to be continuing for the fourth-year lineman.
The Philadelphia Eagles must next cut down their roster to 53 by 4:00 PM ET on August 30th.
