Philadelphia Phillies: Brandon Marsh lands on 10-day injured list
The Philadelphia Phillies‘ ever-increasing injured list welcomed a new member Thursday as center fielder Brandon Marsh was moved to the 10-day IL. Marsh was injured in Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds as he landed awkwardly after trying to rob a home run.
It was a scary sight as Marsh’s knee gave out from under him, and he spent a long amount of time writhing in pain in center field. For a moment, there seemed to be a chance that Marsh’s season with Philadelphia could be over as quickly as it started. Eventually, the medical staff was able to assist him in bending his knee, and Marsh was able to leave the field under his own power.
An MRI would later reveal that he had suffered a bone bruise in his left knee while also spraining his left ankle. While it’s certainly not nearly as bad as it potentially could have been, it’s by no means a walk in the park for Marsh, who will miss some time due to the injury.
The Philadelphia Phillies have moved CF Brandon Marsh to the 10-day IL.
Marsh has proven to be a quality addition since the deadline slashing .250/.294/.313 with the Philadelphia Phillies. More than that, he solidified the team’s defense in center field, something that has been needed all season.
Without him, the team will likely turn to Matt Vierling, who has proven himself valuable this season with his defensive versatility. He’s not a long-term solution, of course, but thankfully, this is not expected to be a long-term problem for the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies have also claimed Bradley Zimmer off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays to help man the open position in the meanwhile. Like Marsh, Zimmer is a defensive specialist who may not add many runs, but he will look to take a few away from the opposition.
