2. The Phillies have two of their best hitters coming back in August

The Phillies never needed to add much offense at the trade deadline. It’s one of the reasons why they were able to trade for Brandon Marsh and feel good about themselves for doing it. While not a brilliant big league hitter just yet, he’s certainly palatable than many of the other options—including the in-house ones they had before the deal.

The big lineup improvements the Phillies will get in August come from the IL returns of Bryce Harper and Jean Segura. They’ve been missing from the lineup for several weeks. In their absence, others have stepped up and helped the Phillies remain in contention.

High-fives need to be handed out to Kyle Schwarber who has been a wrecking ball of power. Rhys Hoskins has had some huge hits for them, too.

A lot has gone amazing well for the Phillies even without the two guys we thought had the best shot to hit .300 or better. Alec Bohm looks like he could challenge for a .300 batting average this season. Darick Hall has had a fun run as a regular DH in Harper’s absence, too.

What the Phillies have built is a team with room for error—not so literally on defense either. Philadelphia was a flawed club from the start. Right now, they feel like their strengths weigh heavier.
