After a disappointing performance in the Home Run Derby, Kyle Schwarber next turned his attention to the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. The Philadelphia Phillies‘ slugger was named an All-Star reserve following his explosive June, one of the best the Phillies have ever seen. Schwarber hit 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, and scored 27 runs while slashing .272/.385/.680 in 27 games.

Schwarber’s electric month, and impressive overall season, made him a no-brainer for the Midsummer Classic, as it did for the Home Run Derby. Schwarber was not voted in as a starter but was still honored all the same. This marked Kyle Schwarber’s second All-Star appearance both consecutively and in his career.

The Phillies’ slugger would enter left field in the top of the 6th as the National League faced the wrong side of a 3-2 deficit. During his first at-bat in the bottom of the 7th, Schwarber grounded out to short. His second and final at-bat, Schwarber, would strike out looking as the penultimate out of the game.

While Philadelphia Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber may not have had to most successful All-Star trip, he certainly deserved the recognition for his great season.

Schwarber may not have been the big hero in last night’s game, but he’s certainly been the hero of the Phillies’ season. Since Bryce Harper went down, Schwarber has been one of the key players keeping the Phillies afloat as they await the return of the reigning MVP. He’s led the Phillies in both home runes (8) and RBIs (12) in the 18 games since Harper’s injury. With about three or four weeks of recovery still expected for Harper, the Phillies will need Schwarber to keep the hits coming.

On the year, Schwarber is averaging a curious slash line of .208/.317/.503 while having 29 home runs, 58 RBIs, and 62 runs under his belt. The average is obviously a concern, but it has improved since the start of the season, and the hope is, as the Phillies continue their hunt for a red October, that the number climbs further north, just as it did last season.
