3. Cade Horton RHP

One of the draft’s fastest risers, Cade Horton, has a lot to get excited about. Horton was solid in his debut season with the Sooners after missing all of 2021 after Tommy John, but it was the postseason that really launched him into solid first-round status.

Horton’s game is predicated on his high-power fastball, which is just overwhelming for most hitters he faces. He’s not just a one-trick pony, though, as he also boasts a tough slider that has touched 90. The power that Cade Horton is able to generate is what has gotten him this far; now, the key is to maintain that power at the rate of the Major League grind.

While his postseason run was obviously impressive, his resume is shockingly short, leading many to believe that as much boom potential as Horton possesses, there is also some bust potential in the young pitcher. Horton could realistically go anywhere from the top-10 to the backend of the first round. The sky’s the limit, but the floor is likely that of a bullpen arm.

Horton is not the typical prospect the Philadelphia Phillies chase, but the potential may prove too tantalizing to ignore.

Philadelphia will have much to think about between now and Sunday night. If the team does decide to go pitcher on the big day, whether it be one of these three or another name like Dylan Lesko or Gabriel Hughes, the Philadelphia Phillies will have an impressive new prospect in the farm system come Monday.
