Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts has been at the forefront of reports over the weekend that alleged the third-year signal-caller was struggling a fair bit in OTAs back in May. Long-time Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn stated that he spoke to multiple sources back in May who relayed these rumored struggles to him. Here’s what Gunn had to say on JAKIB Sports’ “Sports Take” with Barrett Brooks and Rob Ellis:

"“…when I asked a few people back in late May about where Jalen Hurts was in his progress, one person said, ‘Let me just give you a scenario of what he went through in one day of practice.’ It’s a ten play scenario. ‘He had three picks, four incompletions, and three sacks.’ That was his ten play series… And I followed up with, ‘So what are you thinking?’ And the answer was, the direct answer was, ‘He’s got a ways to go.’"

Gunn went on to claim that the organization is not very comfortable with Jalen Hurts. That last statement, in particular, set the following in motion. During the conversation, Barrett Brooks interjected with a disappointed tone stating that he had heard something to a similar effect. For two known and respected media members (and a former NFL player in Brooks) to claim this as what they’ve heard unsurprisingly drew the attention of many.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has found himself in the middle of a rumor war as a report from one NFL reporter has run wild.

After Gunn’s statement on “Sports Take,” some ran wild with the statement that the Philadelphia Eagles organization is “not comfortable with Jalen Hurts.” To some, it seemed absurd; to others, it fit their narrative like a glove. The conversation ratcheted up to the next level, however, when two other parties joined the discussion. One, a current Eagle, the other, another well-established reporter in Philadelphia.
