The Philadelphia 76ers had a busy first day of free agency, signing former Rockets P.J. Tucker and Danuel House. That’s not where the excitement ended, however, as the Sixers signed a third former Rocket, Trevelin Queen, to a two-year, $3.3 million deal. The second year of Queen’s deal is unguaranteed, while the first is only partially guaranteed for $300k according to The Daily Six’s Derek Bodner.

Having only played ten games for Houston, Queen is not known as much for his time with the Rockets as he is for his time in the G League with the Rio Grande Vipers. Last season with the Vipers, Queen averaged 25.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. During his 19 regular-season games, Queen shot 48.5 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from three (on 9.7 attempts per game), and 79.6 percent from the free-throw line. Those impressive stats were enough to earn Queen the G Leagues’ MVP honor for the 2021-22 season.

Most Sixers fans may not be familiar with Trevelin Queen, but those who followed the Delaware Blue Coats last season should certainly know his name. Queen led the Vipers to the top seed in the Western Conference and a G League Finals matchup against the Blue Coats sweeping the series 2-0. Perhaps his most lasting impression, though, was stomping on the Blue Coats’ logo, which started a shoving match that led to several ejections, including Queen’s. Hopefully, that’s all in the past the next time he meets 2021-22 Blue Coats Charles Bassey and Jaden Springer (it will be).

After being added by the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent, Trevelin Queen has a chance to make a name for himself at the NBA level.

Trevelin Queen is a freakish high-flyer who will bring an unparalleled level of athleticism to the Philadelphia 76ers. Doc Rivers‘ squad may not have been the worst fast-break team last season, but they were far from the best. The addition of Trevelin Queen will hopefully go a long way to help in that area.

His clear weakness is as a shooter, but he’s at least a willing shooter, so he won’t stagnate the offense. He’s not a complete player, yet anyway, but Queen is at least an exciting player who provides a skill set no other Sixer boasts.

Between his future action with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Delaware Blue Coats, Queen is an exciting reason to go see the team live in action.
