Option 1. Championship pedigree

Otto Porter Jr. is that absolute best-case scenario for the Philadelphia 76ers and their Bi-Annual Exception. A lengthy wing with some small-ball center experience, Porter played a crucial role in Golden State’s title run this past season. As a legitimate 3-and-D threat, the hope is that he could do the same in Philadelphia.

Porter is coming of a season that saw him average 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 37 percent from three. While those stats may not exactly pop off the page, he did all of that in just 22 minutes of action. In Philadelphia, Porter would have the opportunity for an increased role, although the 76ers would undoubtedly love for him to simply replicate the two-way impact he had for the Warriors.

It may be difficult to pry Porter away from Golden State. However, if Philadelphia is truly able to build as impressive of a team as they apparently plan to, Porter may find it in his best interest to jump across the continental United States.

One complication is that Porter exclusively played at the power forward and center spots last season, nearly identical to future Sixers P.J. Tucker. Would having that type of redundancy bother Philadelphia? Or would they rely on both Porter and Tucker’s past experience at small forward to rationalize a way to make it work? At the end of the day, there’s no great argument against adding quality talent.
