Option 2. A two-way wing

After the NBA trade deadline this past season, many expected the Orlando Magic and wing Gary Harris to agree to a buyout. That, of course, did not happen as Harris finished out his season with the Magic. After collecting the remainder of his four-year, $84 million contract ($29 million last season), Harris has the ability to take a small discount for a chance to compete.

Last season, Harris averaged 11.1 points while shooting 38.4 percent from deep on over five attempts in Orlando. That type of three-point efficiency and volume would go a long way to replace what the Sixers lost after trading away Danny Green (who would not have played anyway).

Defensively, Harris can more than hold his own. Last season for the Magic, Harris guarded the primary ball-handler on the opposing team and still managed to be an impactful defender; that impact was just hidden on the defensively poor Orlando Magic team. In Philadelphia, Harris’ defensive ability would no longer be hidden, and he could perhaps even be improved further.

While he’s a bit undersized to start at the open small forward spot for Philadelphia, he can fill in that role on spot occasions. Harris profiles more as a bench piece for the Sixers but one that could fill the role as perhaps the sixth man.

Gary Harris would come to Philadelphia with 28 playoff games under his belt. That level of experience is thoroughly needed in Philadelphia. The only thing more valuable would be a role player for a championship team.
