Philadelphia 76ers: 3 players to target with the Bi-Annual Exception
Option 3. A bonafide sniper
The Philadelphia 76ers have a bevy of needs as they try to transform this team into a true contender. With P.J. Tucker all but signed to Philadelphia, the Sixers address one major need, a starting-caliber 3&D forward who sweats effort and hustle. Still on the needs board are rebounding, playmaking, and of course, shooting. This is where Bryn Forbes comes in.
Over his six-year career, Forbes has consistently been one of the top shooters in the entirety of the NBA, shooting 41.3 percent from deep in that time. That level of shooting would be more than welcome in Philadelphia after Seth Curry left town in the trade that brought James Harden to Philadelphia.
Forbes is not known as much of a defender or facilitator, but what he does well, shooting for those still unsure, he does incredibly well. While his game does have those previously mentioned holes, it’s his imperfect game that would make him affordable for Philadelphia next season at all.
Last season, Bryn Forbes averaged 8.6 points while shooting 41.0 percent from three and 92.1 percent from the free-throw line. That type of offensive efficiency would help alleviate some pressure on the current Sixers roster. Not only that, but by playing with James Harden and Joel Embiid, the best playmaker and center he’s been paired with in his career, Forbes has the chance to take his game to the next level with Philadelphia.
The bottom line is that the Sixers have thrived with a sniper on their roster, whether it was JJ Redick, Seth Curry, or potentially now Bryn Forbes. A fun fact about Forbes is that he used to play with future Sixer P.J. Tucker, as did the next potential candidate.
