Philadelphia Eagles: Ranking the quarterbacks rooms of the NFC East
In the NFL, there’s no single position grouping that has more of an effect on a team’s winning percentage. If a team has a good one, they are probably good, if they have a bad one, even the best supporting cast won’t cover it up, and if their top guy goes down via injury and there isn’t an adequate replacement plan in order, their season can end prematurely.
The Philadelphia Eagles, to their credit, have experienced the importance of fielding a deep and talented quarterbacks room firsthand, and have kept their winning philosophy from 2017 alive and well into 2022.
But have their fellow NFC East teams done the same? Let’s take a look at the quarterbacks rooms across the division to see how each team stacks up against their peers.
4. New York Giants
The New York Giants are in an interesting spot as a franchise. They have the highest-drafted homegrown quarterback of any team in the division but didn’t pick up his fifth-year option.
They have a new head coach who is known for his running a scheme that is quarterback friendly but didn’t add any opt-tier pass catchers in free agency or the draft to bolster their below-average passing game.
And they handed ex-Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor a two-year, $11 million contract which, though smart, signifies a clear lack of confidence in the position grouping heading into 2022.
Most important performer: Daniel Jones
The New York Giants’ season basically rests on the shoulders of Daniel Jones. If he can finally live up to the potential former GM Dave Gettleman saw coming out of Duke, the Giants might actually be decent. I mean, they have a good run game – assuming good health to Saquon Barkley – an improved offensive line, an improved defensive system, and the inherent surprise that comes with having a new head coach.
If, however, Jones starts to struggle and falls into his old, bad habits yet again, the Giants might just be picking his replacement at the top of the 2023 NFL Draft.
