Philadelphia Eagles: Training camp reporting date revealed

Folks, it’s officially summer, which can only mean one thing: Philadelphia Eagles training camp is right around the corner.

That’s right, though fans were afforded a few glimpses of the newest members for the team decked out in midnight green — and some very interesting black and orange alternative looks to promote the end of gun violence – the real work hasn’t really started, and won’t officially begin until July 26th, when the NovaCare center will be abuzz with 90 football players looking to prove their worth to the coaching staff and maybe, just maybe, continue their dreams of playing football professionally for one year more.

Enjoy the next month or so while you can, folks, because a little over one month from now, the NFL season is going to ramp up in a hurry.

Training camp was incredibly important for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. They had a new coaching staff, well over a dozen new young players, and a young quarterback about to enter his first professional season as a presumed starting quarterback.

The questions were expansive; would Nick Sirianni’s scheme translate to Philly? Would players like DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson immediately translate to the pros? And what about Hurts? Would he be good enough to keep his job all season, or would Joe Flacco and eventually Gardner Minshew steal his spot by midway through the season?

In 2022, most of those questions have been answered; Sirianni’s a very good coach indeed, Smith and Dickerson look like long-term starters, and Hurts is so locked into his starting spot that he’s been afforded opportunities to pick the food at the NovaCare Center.

Theoretically, 2022’s training camp should be much more about tune-ups than big-time changes, right? Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a ton of interesting storylines worth following too. How will Jordan Davis’ addition affect the defensive front? Will the Birds use more 3-4 fronts with Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave? Will James Bradberry perfectly complement Darius Slay on the outside? And what about A.J. Brown? Will he and Smith form an unstoppable duo, or will they counteract each other and have slightly less impressive seasons statistically, much to the chagrin of fantasy football fans the world over?

So fellow Philadelphia Eagles fans, enjoy the next month. Barbeque, go down the shore, maybe just sit on the deck and look at some lightning bugs, as once the 26th of July rolls around, the real work begins, and the Sunday night lights of NFL football will be upon us.
