The Philadelphia Phillies are scorching hot in June with an impressive 15-3 record only 21 days into the month. One of the key cogs in this turnaround has been the play of reigning MVP Bryce Harper who has been nothing short of dominant with 16 RBIs, 14 runs, and five home runs in that time. His slash line in that time is possibly even more impressive .404/.492/.750 including an unreal 1.242 OPS, which leads the NL and ranks second in the league (min 10 games played).

This offensive explosion is just the latest in an impressive season as Harper looks to do all he can to repeat as the NL MVP. That may prove to be difficult if he continues to play the DH spot as, unless you’re Shohei Ohtani, you’re not likely to walk home with the award. What Harper can do is make the NL All-Star team this year, which he’s well on his way to doing.

Not expected to be a DH at the start of the season, Harper has thrived in his new role, and while he’s not going to finish the season in that role (hopefully), he will almost certainly qualify for the position come as far as the All-Star Game is concerned. How does he compare against the other DHs in the NL? Quite favorably, as it turns out.

As the first returns come in for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, Phillies’ slugger Bryce Harper is already dominating the vote for Designated Hitter.

With nearly twice the amount of votes over second-place DH William Contreras of the Atlanta Braves, Bryce Harper has thoroughly demolished the competition to the tune of 1,059,433 votes at the end of Phase one. The Phillies’ slugger leads the entire league in votes for a DH and ranks fifth among hitters in the league in total votes.

The most amazing part of all of this is the fact that Harper has done all of this with a tear in his right UCL. While this type of injury would cause most players to undergo Tommy John Surgery and end their season, Harper has decided to play through the pain, and while he may be limited to the DH role, he’s still leading this team to victory both on and off the field.
