There has been much in the news lately with regards to the Philadelphia 76ers. From the trade rumors surrounding Danny Green and the 23rd pick to reports of Tobias Harris being disgruntled to now rumors of Harden’s contract negotiation, this time in Philadelphia basketball is nothing if not exciting. One of the latest rumors to come forward is that the Sixers and star guard James Harden are expected to agree on a three-year deal.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, the Sixers and Harden have decided to work together in contract negotiations in order for the team, and Harden, to have their best chance at an NBA Championship. It’s not overly surprising that Harden is most likely staying in Philadelphia, but the “how” behind whether or not he would stay was very much in question.

It’s a uniquely odd situation for Philadelphia and Harden, as the Sixers clearly could not simply part ways with the future Hall of Famer. Though Harden may not have played up to anyone’s expectations last season — including his own — he’s still the most talented and accomplished player that Joel Embiid has ever played with in Philadelphia. For Harden, there is no team that can both afford him and compete, save for the Philadelphia 76ers.

James Harden is rumored to plan on accepting his player option and sign a two-year extension with the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s not the five-year max Harden could have pushed for, nor is it the Chris Paul/Kyle Lowry deal that many fans clamor for. Instead, it seems that James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers are expected to meet somewhere in the middle when it comes to his next contract.

The news is obviously huge for Philadelphia, but what exactly does it mean? Is this good? How will this impact the draft/free agency? This brings us to three takeaways from this latest James Harden rumor:
