Philadelphia 76ers: 3 realistic Tobias Harris trade targets
1. Buddy Hield and Malcolm Brogdon
What? A two for one? What gives?
Well, I’m going to be honest with you; finding a third candidate is hard. Acquiring Russell Westbrook is a hard no, as are players like John Wall and Kristaps Porzingis, and cobbling together enough money on a team like the Minnesota Timberwolves is basically impossible.
So, unless the Sixers want to go full-on salary dump and actually want to bring talent back in a deal, exchanging Harris for Malcolm Brogdon and Buddy Hield might be one of the more realistic options on the board, even if it would cost the 2022 first round pick and potentially even Jaden Springer to get a deal done.
Why? Because the Pacers want to get younger, they want to accrue assets, and, according to Jake Fischer, they view Brodgon ad as a negative asset.
Two years of Hield and a single season of Brogdon worth all of that? Maybe yes, maybe no, but doing a two-for-one swap a la how the Wizards dealt Westbrook could open up options for the Sixers in the immediate future, like moving Brogdon at the deadline if he doesn’t fit alongside James Harden and Tyrese Maxey and the use of the MLE plus trade chips like Matisse Thybulle and Danny Green to add a plug-‘n-play performer at the power forward spot.
This particular option is my least favorite of the three, but breaking up Harris’ money into multiple contracts, especially ones owned by role players who accept where they fit in an NBA offense, could prove the best option down the road, especially if the acquired players are exceptional fits next to Joel Embiid.
