2. Washington Commanders

The NFC East as a whole has very good running backs. Every team has at least one really good rusher, and some – more on that later – actually have two.

But which team has the best running back? Which back rises above the rest and deserves to be crowned the “top dawg of the NFC East?” For my money, at least, that player is employed by the Washington Commanders.

Behind that player, Washington has good depth, too, with J.D. McKissic serving as their change-of-pace back who can catch passes out of the backfield, and Brian Robinson, the team’s third-round pick in 2022, drafted to add some power up front.

Top performer: Antonio Gibson

Antonio Gibson is the best running back in the NFC East; there, I said it.

A hybrid rusher/receiver at Memphis whose tweener-status dropped him down to the third round in the 2020 NFL Draft, Gibson has amassed 2,373 all-purpose yards through his first two professional seasons and has surpassed the century mark in nine of his 31 professional games.

With a rush-happy head coach now in place who got incredible production out of Christian McCaffrey both on the ground and through the air, the best very well may be left to come for Gibson, which, considering the benchmark he’s already set, could be incredible indeed.
