3. Reunited and it feels so good

After a more than disappointing postseason performance, newly acquired Sixers star James Harden had few people still openly praising him. Former teammate Patrick Beverley was not only one of these rare supporters but also one of the most vocal.

Last month, Beverley went on quite the interesting press tour where he made many memorable statements. From taking multiple shots at the Phoenix Suns’ Chris Paul to hinting at a trade to Miami and, of course, his stance on what type of contract James Harden deserves, Beverley gave his opinion to all who would listen. Once teammates for half of a decade, now is their chance to reunite.

While a backup guard is far from the Sixers’ top need, it still is a need and what’s more important is what Beverley brings to the team’s locker room. There’s some debate about the legitimacy of Beverley’s “tough guy” persona, but that’s the case for any tough NBA player from Marcus Morris to Marcus Smart; basically, anyone not names Steven Adams. Beverley is the type of loud-mouthed hype man that every contender needs, and he would also boast a skillset the 76ers need.

On the long list of needs for the Philadelphia 76ers appear the following: shooting, perimeter defense, and passing ability. This is in addition to toughness and grit. Patrick Beverley provides all of this, more than he’s gotten credit for in the past. Known for his trash-talking and pest-like defensive ability, Beverley has gone under the radar as a shooter over his career. The ten-year veteran has averaged 37.8% from three on 4.2 attempts per game during his time in the league.

The position may not be the Sixers’ greatest need, but the team is certainly in need of everything Beverley brings to the table.
