1. Philadelphia Eagles

Boy oh boy, how the tables have turned. After years of fielding a below-average secondary, the Birds finally have not one but two Pro Bowl cornerbacks with a third, Avonte Maddox, who should have earned a spot too if the league cared more about the slot.

Baring injury or something crazy, like moving Maddox back to free safety, Jonathan Gannon should be able to call any coverage he desires, maintain maximum mystery pre-snap, and dominate opposing receivers in both man and zone coverage.

Factor in the team’s depth, with Zech McPhearson and Tay Gowan on the outside and Josiah Scott and Jimmy Moreland on the interior, and any defensive issues the Eagles have in 2022 shouldn’t be at the cornerback position.

Top cornerback – Darius Slay

It’s hard to put into words just how much of a culture-setter Darius Slay has been for the Eagles’ secondary. He helped to recruit Steven Nelson, helped to recruit James Bradberry, and helped to put wind behind Philly’s sails with some incredible takeaways in the middle of the season. While Bradberry’s addition puts the unit over the top, the Eagles wouldn’t be where they are today without Slay.
