After a thrilling come-from-behind win followed by a blowout in the first two games, Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies came into today’s game, having already clinched the series. On the mound for the finale was Zach Eflin for Philly, facing off against Milwaukee’s ace, Corbin Burnes.

Milwaukee took an early lead after a home run by Willy Adames, setting an uneasy tone. The lead wouldn’t last long for the Brewers, however, as Nick Castellanos would score on a Bryson Stott grounder. It was a pretty quick first few innings as Eflin and Burnes both labored their ways through the first four innings. Eflin reached nearly 100 pitches by the end of the fourth inning, while Burnes threw 113 pitches in 4.1 innings of work. By the end of the game, the pitch count between both teams has reached a grand total of 400. Once the relievers came in, however, the real fun began.

J.T. Realmuto and Didi Gregorius would notch an RBI each for Philadelphia as the Phillies would take a 3-1 lead. After that, the home run parade would begin. Bryce Harper would hit a solo home run in the seventh, while Kyle Schwarber would continue his red hot June with a two-run homer in the eighth. Finally, Odubel Herrera would seal the game with a homer of his own in the top of the ninth. The bottom of the inning would prove more interesting than Phillies fans would desire, but after three singles given up, the team would manage to hold on to win the game by a score of 8-3.

The Phillies continued their torrid winning streak by completing the sweep of the Brewers as Schwarber continued his red-hot June.

This game marks the second straight sweep and seventh straight win for the ball club as the Phillies are doing everything they can to drag themselves back to .500 baseball. With the way this team looks, though, they should far exceed that mark, considering how much baseball is left to be played this season. One of the key reasons for the turnaround has been the return of the offense. Many players have improved their approach at the plate in June, from rookie Bryson Stott to reigning MVP Bryce Harper, but one big-money player’s scorching month stands out among the rest.

Kyle Schwarber was one of two big-time offensive additions that General Manager Dave Dombrowski brought in this past offseason. While his power never left him, Schwarber struggled to find any semblance of consistency — perhaps due to his inconsistent spot in the lineup. In the month of June, however, Kyle Schwarber has looked like a new man.

In the seven games played this month —coincidentally matching the Phillies’ winning streak — Schwarber has so far hit four home runs, eight RBIs, and ten runs. He boasts a slash line of .357/.455/.893, just a far cry from how he’s played this season in the best possible way. Hopefully, there’s more of this on the horizon for Schwarber and the Phillies, as they are still one game under .500 and remain 2.5 games back in the wildcard race.
